Judges incur fury over pedophile sentencing

She said a six-year-old girl cannot be expected to resist such molestation, and this case could become a precedent, allowing other child molesters to escape serious punishment.

KMT Legislator Lu Hsueh-chang, ruled out the possibility that corruption was involved, and said the verdict demonstrated the judges' lack of experience.

He said reform should be introduced to better educate judges and there must be an evaluation system for penalizing judges.

KMT Legislator Hsieh Kuo-liang said a draft bill for reforming the judiciary is seeking introduce an evaluation system where incompetent judges can be eliminated.

Hsieh echoed Lu's opinion about the judges' lack of experience.

Hsieh said judges may be good students who become members of the judiciary by completing a training course, but they may lack common sense.

Legislator Pan Meng-an, a whip of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), said a mechanism should be put in place outside of the judicial system for evaluating the judges.

DPP Legislator Yeh Yi-ching said her party caucus will forward a bill for introducing a system to evaluate the performance of judges, as well as prosecutors.

The latest row comes in the wake of a string of corruption scandals which have hit the judiciary.

President Ma Ying-jeou, in an attempt to reform the judiciary, has named a new chief, Rai Hau-min, to replace Lai In-jaw, who resigned over the corruption scandals. Su Yeong-chin has been nominated as Rai's deputy.

But the DPP claimed that the latest row showed that Ma has been paying lip-service to judicial reform.

Tsai demanded that the candidates for the top judicial jobs spell out their reform plans. The nominations still need the approval of the Legislature.

Pathetic, absolutely and utterly pathetic.

Shame on you Taiwan. How can a six year old girl be raped and then the judges findings are:" There were no violent forceful means involved?" How can a six year old defend herself. The sentence should be at least for ten years or more and castration without anesthetics.

Once again, "human right" had protected the rapist. Good news for all the child molesters of the world, they can come to Taiwan and commit the crime with negligible punishment and bad news for both parents and children. Take care of yourself. The law will not protect your children.

A six year old child has a right. And that right should be voiced out loud and clear. Child molesters should be PUNISHED and CONDEMNED!!! There should be a law against this kind of lascivious act and be penalized for it....three years is not enough.

When the law abiding citizens cry for justice in supporting the death penalty for the criminals you and the Human Rights Organization cry to abolish the Death Penalty to save the life of the criminals.
