Updated Friday, July 30, 2010 9:39 am TWN, CNA International geography contest opens in TaipeiAccording to the Taipei-based Geographical Society of China and the Department of Geography of National Taiwan Normal University, a total of 28 teams comprising 106 participants from around the world are taking part in the competition that will run through Aug. 4 under the auspices of the International Geographical Union Olympiad Task Force. However, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said that as this competition is not the same as the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) which is globally recognized, so local winning students will not be awarded by the MOE or be recommended for admission for further studies.
