Updated Thursday, July 29, 2010 9:51 am TWN, CNA Taiwan to host global math competition in 2012An 80-plus delegation of Taiwanese students and their parents are in Incheon for the competition from July 25-29, said Sun Wen-hsien, head of the delegation and chairman of Taiwan's Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation, which represented Taiwan in the bid to hold the 2012 event. Sun said that hosting the 2012 IMC event will help lift Taiwan's international visibility. The 2012 event is expected to attract contestants from nearly 30 countries, Sun said. The foundation won the hosting bid with support from Taiwan's Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and the Tourism Bureau. A total of 256 teams from 26 countries are taking part in this year's IMC. This is the first time the event combines the Elementary Mathematics International Competition founded in 2003 and the World Youth Mathematics Intercity Competition founded in 1999.
