Updated Thursday, July 29, 2010 9:44 am TWN, The China Post news staff MOF defends lottery, but pledges more transparencyThe ministry made the remarks after a magazine ran a report questioning the process. The report claimed that the machine for drawing the numbers is old. With no live coverage, the drawing process is recorded and broadcast later. But the footage only shows the results of the drawing, not the actual process, raising concerns about the possibility of rigging. The ministry explained that although the drawing machine has been in service since 1987, it is used only once every two months and still runs well. The producer of the broadcast only records the results in order to provide a smooth program, and there is only a half-an-hour difference between the drawing and the broadcast, the ministry said. But the ministry said it will study how improvements can be made to the monitoring and broadcasting, so as to dispel doubts about its fairness. The ministry will produce a report on possible improvements before the next lottery draw on Sept. 25. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
