Updated Wednesday, July 28, 2010 10:02 am TWN, The China Post news staff DPP to look at ECFA from new angle, but keep fightingTsai, who is running for the mayor of Xinbei (New Taipei) City representing the DPP, said in an interview with the United Daily News on Monday that it is futile to continue “barking at the train” as the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) is marshalling all resources to promote the economic cooperation framework agreement (ECFA) with China. As a candidate, Tsai said she would rather channel all resources on election campaigns and get all DPP candidates elected in the upcoming elections at five special municipalities. KMT officials and lawmakers welcomed Tsai's modifications in her stance on the ECFA. They urged the DPP to drop its opposition and allow the trade pact to be reviewed and approved by the Legislative Yuan in the forthcoming special legislative session. But when questioned by reporters yesterday, Tsai said the DPP will not give up on the battle concerning the ECFA. Tsai said her party will continue alerting people on the long-term detrimental impact from the trade pact while the KMT is emphasizing mainly on the short-term benefits.
