The KMT, which holds a strong majority in legislature, said the extraordinary week-long legislative session will continue as scheduled until July 14.

At least three less controversial bills will now come under deliberation despite the DPP's decision to withdraw from the session.

The bills include proposed amendments to the Civil Service Employment Act, the Civil Service Retirement Act, and the Civil Service Survivor Relief Act, according to officials in the KMT caucus.

Three other bills on the agenda -- proposed amendments to the Disaster Prevention and Protection Act and the National Health Insurance Act and a draft law on farm village rejuvenation -- will likely be shelved for further negotiations with the DPP, which has some issues with them, KMT officials said.

Department of Health Minister Yaung Chih-liang called on the legislators again yesterday to pass the proposed amendment to the National Health Insurance Act in the special session to facilitate the implementation of a second-generation National Health Insurance (NHI) in 2012.

The second-generation NHI, which will calculate premiums based on total household incomes, will ensure that rich people are charged in proportion to their wealth, Yaung reiterated.

The DPP are only interested in power, and have nothing but utter contempt for Democracy. We, the people, voted for the current administration because the majority was fed up with the hardship of 8 years in the economic wilderness (not to mention corruption), at a time when the rest of the world was booming. Now there's an economic crisis, and the KMT can deliver 14% - which is a staggering performance. This is what the people want - a decent LIVELIHOOD. But the DPP can't bear to see the KMT preside over such phenomenal economic success, so they hold the country to ransom by paralyzing the LY. Then stir up ethnic hatred. The usual tricks of their trade. Maggots, all of them.

Taiwan is a society that prizes consensus. It will be interesting to see how this long struggle to prevent social consensus on ECFA - by a president with under 30% of approval ratings - is reflected in the presidential poll in 2012 (and those in 2010 and 2011).

@mordrake -- you have fallen hook line and sinker for the kmt's economic line. under president Chen, the economy was actually quite good with solid economic growth and low inflation. You have fallen for the Q1 economic growth number but forget that it was after a Q1 contraction of more than 11 percent the previous year. As the Q1 number is a Y on Y number, the actual economic growth per annum on a Q1 basis between 2008 and 2010 is less than 1.3%.,, !!!

I know facts are a problem for the blues, so you prefer to ignore them...

Dont forget that our late President Chiang Ching-kuo launched the "Fourteen Major Construction Projects" and the "Twelve New Development Projects" that contributed to the "Taiwan Miracle" and accelerating the process of economic modernization and growth...
Nipponese Lee Teng Hui and Corrupt Chen and the Greens should be thankful to inherit President Chiang Ching-kuo achievements and accomplishments that given them to continue. But who knows N_LTH only achievement is to kowtow inside the Yasukuni Shrine and Corrupt Chen contributed himself as the Icon of Corruption.
And you as a teacher and the greens should be thankful to President Horsy and KMT today to launched another "Taiwan Miracle" that is ECFA. But you ignore it. PENDU!!! Kap L_N.
