She said China has repeatedly asked the DPP to abandon its Taiwan Independence Platform, before any meeting can be held between both sides. “This is a political precondition,” Tsai said. “Setting such a precondition is not a good and positive thing to do.” She added: “Any form of communication between both sides of the strait should be based on good mutual understanding.” She cited a recent poll as saying 86 percent of pan-green voters are supportive of talks with China without any political preconditions. “If China wants to gain a further understanding of what Taiwan people are thinking, it must speak with the DPP,” she said.
