Ex-prosecutor receives demerit for Chen trialThe former top prosecutor Chen Tsung-ming was given a minor demerit for damaging the image of government officials, said the Commission on the Disciplinary Sanctions of Functionaries (CDSF). The CDSF punishment was a response to the highest watchdog body Control Yuan's impeachment against the prosecutor in January. The watchdog impeached Chen for misconduct, which included his participation in a dinner gathering with a close friend of the ex-president's despite the former head of state's corruption trial. The watchdog's impeachments or other indictments against government officials and civil servants will be forwarded to the CDSF, which will decide the form of punishment. The CDSF explained in the case of high-ranking officials, there could be only two options: a dismissal or a minor demerit. Chen's case did not warrant a dismissal, and he had already resigned after the watchdog's impeachment decision, the CDSF said. | |||||||||||||
