Updated Friday, March 19, 2010 11:46 am TWN, By Maubo Chang, CNA Man under probe for threatening president's daughtersThe man, identified only by his family name Chen, told police that he had made the threat because he was dissatisfied with the state of affairs in Taiwan, according to Liu Poh-liang, deputy chief of the Criminal Investigation Bureau which is handling the investigation. The threat was made in an article posted online by Chen under the heading, "Don't think you're safe because you're in the U.S, " referring to Ma's two daughters who both reside in the U.S. and are in their 20s. Chen was picked up at his private office in Taipei Thursday evening, hours after the police were alerted to the online threat, which has since been removed. Local police had at first asked Washington for help, thinking that Chen was in the United States because he was using a U.S. Yahoo account, but later tracked him down in Taipei. Liu said the man will be referred to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for further questioning. According to police, Chen apologized during questioning, saying that he had no idea the article -- one of 30 that he posted on the site -- would have caused such a stir. The Presidential Office declined to comment on the matter. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
