The police found out that most victims ordered products from the same online store 'Fashion International (潮流國際)'on Yahoo! Auction. The store sold branded shoes, including DC, VANS, NIKE, Adidas, etc., each pair sold at around NT$1,000. By tracing the Internet Protocol address of the online store owner, the police tracked down a male suspect, Wei Chia-yi (魏嘉儀), age 23. The victims paid for the items on delivery, only to discover cheap knockoffs after they open their packages, instead of the genuine items shown on the Web site. Some items were covered with mold, and some were totally different products from what they had ordered, according to the police. The police advised buyers to pay only after making sure they have received the correct products that they have ordered. Yang Shun-hui, an officer at the Consumer Protection Commission, reminded that consumers have the right to ask for refund and return the products to the seller if the products received are damaged or flawed.
