Vice Premier: FocusTaiwan connects Taiwan with the world

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan's Vice Premier Eric Liluan Chu said Wednesday that the newly launched English Web site FocusTaiwan (focustaiwan.tw) of Taiwan's news wire, the Central News Agency, can help the international community gain a better understanding of Taiwan.

Speaking at the FocusTaiwan launching party at the CNA headquarters in Taipei, Chu said that while the 86-year-old CNA has reported on major news events and kept a record of the history of the Republic of China over the past decades, the news agency's English language news service has served as a voice of the nation to the world.

The vice premier pointed out the significance of FocusTaiwan as an English news platform to provide real time, objective and detailed reports which enable English language readers around the world to know more about Taiwan and the issues and events happening here.

The editorial abstracts and Talk of the Day are features of the service that the vice premier found very useful to inform international readers of the different opinions over issues and events in Taiwan, as reflected in its media.

He also said that he was impressed to find that he can read CNA news stories and view CNA photos on his mobile phone.
