A (H1NI) vaccine is available at major transit centers: CDC

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Residents travelling back to Taiwan can get vaccinated against the A (H1N1) virus at major transit centers starting today, an official said. The service will be available free-of-charge to Taiwanese citizens and foreigners with a valid residency or a working visa, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Deputy Director-General, Shih Wen-yi.

These temporary stations are located in Taipei Sonshan Airport, Taoyuan International Airport, Taichung Airport, Kaohsiung International Airport, Taipei Main Station and Taipei Bus Station, said Shih.

Shih added that the service will run until 9 p.m. everyday until Feb 13 [Chinese New Year's Eve] and that the transit facilities will remain open as long there are individuals interested in being inoculated.

Interested parties can find the stations located in the arrival lobby of Taipei Main Station, or the area between customs and baggage claims if arriving by air.

In addition, shot receivers can chose vaccines from one of two manufacturers — Swiss-made Novartis or the Taiwan-produced Adimmune, Shih said.

The Department of Health has urged the public to be inoculated before the Chinese New Year holiday as a precaution against outbreaks.
