Telematics to help provide real-time road informationThe platform developed by the ministry's Institute of Transportation and Chunghwa Telecom will tell motorists the locations of parking spaces, traffic conditions and other information within a two-kilometer radius, the United Evening News said. The information will be sent to motorists' cell phones, notebook computers and any other mobile and on-board devices via the service platform, which integrates 3G, 3.5G and WiMax connectivity, the paper said. The paper did not say when the service would be commercialized. A senior researcher at Chunghwa Telecom was cited as saying that the service will help drivers arrive at their destinations via the fastest routes. Drivers can simply key their departure locations and destinations into mobile devices that are connected to the telematics service, and they will be told which will be the fastest routes and how they can avoid traffic jams, the researcher said. | |||||||||||||
