Updated Thursday, December 24, 2009 9:34 am TWN, The China Post news staff Taiwan inaugurates Asia's largest HCPV plantEstablished by the Institute of Nuclear Energy Research, the plant sits on a two-hectare [1 hectare=2.47 acre] land located in Lujhu Township, Kaohsiung County. This is the second largest solar power plant in the world after Spain. With 141 solar panels, the plant capacity produces up to 100 megawatt of energy annually. The power plant utilizes solar tracker which concentrate solar lens or reflectors towards the sun and makes the light concentrates on smaller cell chips, official said. Dignitaries in yesterday's ceremony include former premier Liu Chao-shiuan, Atomic Energy Council Minister Lee Lo-chuan, Kaohsiung County Commissioner Yang Chiu-hsing and Kuomintang councilors. Southern Taiwan receives more than 300 days of sunlight annually and is thus the ideal location for developing photovoltaic (PV) industry, Yang said. The power plant is anticipated to bring in more sustainable power developments into the city, said Yang. He added that the Taiwan Power Company is planning for another 450MW power plant in Kaohsiung.
