Electronic suppliers fined for misleading claims

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) conducted an investigation and decided yesterday to fine supplier P&G and wholesale company Carrefour for a misleading advertisement.

Product supplier P&G and Carrefour jointly promoted Braun's electric shavers by distributing advertising fliers during the Father's Day this year.

The advertisement claimed that some 95 percent of fathers considered such shavers the best gift for the day.

The FTC's investigation showed that the suppliers' survey targeted at those costumers who received sample products worth NT$12,800.

The advertisement did not point out how the survey was conducted, said FTC, and added that the claim and the figure could mislead the judgment of costumers.

The P&G and Carrefour face the fine of NT$200,000 and NT$100,000, respectively, for the misleading claim.
