During the meeting, Lo also cited statistics as indicating that as of the end of August this year, the TRA had as many as 522 housing units (amounting to 5,233 hectare in space) illegally occupied by others, representing an increase of 174 units over a year earlier and leading to a loss of NT$200 million in house rental income. She urged the TRA to step up tackling the illegal occupation of its dormitory houses. In response, Fan Chih-wei, director general of the TRA, said that the TRA has systematized the appropriation of a spate of bonuses since 1981, as the basic monthly pay for TRA employees has been comparatively lower than those for other government employees. Fan continued that the TRA has filed lawsuit against 250 illegal occupants of its housing units, and expects to retrieve some of the units by the end of next year.
