According to the victim who was almost robbed, 200 meters from Wenhua Street, where Tsai was trying to woo votes, the man cornered her in her car and demanded her purse, threatening her with a knife. The woman's sixth grade daughter was sitting in the back seat. Upon seeing the robber, the girl instinctively got out of the car, opened the passenger door where her mother kept her purse and grabbed the bag. When the man attempted to flee in the car with the girl's mother, the girl screamed “robber!” at the top of her lungs and caught the attention of Tsai's bodyguards. The man ran from the car with the sixth grade girl in hot pursuit. The police officers, whose duty was to protect Tsai, soon caught up and captured the failed robber, arresting him on the spot.
