Weather expected to warm up this afternoon: CWB

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Weather is forecast to warm up this afternoon as the cold air mass weakens, reported the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The cold weather is expected to continue this morning. The central and the south regions might even see a 13-14 degrees Celsius. The effect of this cold air mass is weaker than expected and overall temperature stay at 15 degrees. Occasional showers will spread over the north and the northeast regions and dry weather will continue in other areas.

Yesterday morning Xindian reported the lowest temperature of 14.9 degrees and Tamsui with 15.7 degrees. The weekend temperature is predicated to rise this afternoon with Saturday seeing a possible 30 degrees high.

The chilly weather has boosted business across the island. A convenience store chain that had announced a promotion offering “buy one get one free” special for hot coffee, was reportedly seeing a huge growth from normal sales, according to a manager of a store located near the Minquan West Road MRT Station.

Other media reports also noticed increased sales in hot pots restaurants. In Taichung City, a restaurant with a two-for-one promotion reported huge lines of customers waiting to warm up on hot food due to the chilly weather.
