New missile fails test; Ma in attendance

Ma was at a military base in the southern county of Pingtung to witness the missile's test-launch on Tuesday, but the unstable system failed to fire it, the United Evening News said.

The defense ministry declined to comment, but did not deny that there was a failure, the paper said.

The missile system was developed by the military's Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology.
