Wu predicts Cabinet may be reshuffled at year-end

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Wu Poh-hsiung, outgoing chairman of the Kuomintang, predicted yesterday the new Cabinet Premier Wu Den-yih formed on Thursday may be reshuffled at year's end.

Premier Wu did not rule out that possibility.

While on a tour of inspection in southern Taiwan, the premier asked whether his Cabinet may be reshuffled after local elections scheduled for December 5 are held.

“I can't rule that possibility out,” the premier told reporters.

Voters will go to the polls to elect 17 mayors and magistrates across the country.

A number of incumbent KMT mayors and magistrates are banned from seeking re-election. They have to retire before this year is out.

Some of them have to be placed in the Cabinet or appointed sinecure jobs at the KMT central office.
