Updated Saturday, July 4, 2009 9:38 am TWN, The China Post news staff Lee Teng-hui 'odd' for shifting views on China: Annette LuLu said she did not know how to comment on the latest change in Lee's attitude that has seen him laud China. “Lee is such an odd person. He joined the communist party as a young man, and later the Kuomintang to eventually become its chairman,” Lu was cited by the Central News Agency as saying Thursday in Washington D.C. “He served 12 years as president of the Republic of China. As he was smart enough, he never spent a single day in prison,” Lu said. “After retiring as president, he became one of the most provocative leaders of the Taiwan independence movement. But now he has changed his attitude, lauding China as Taiwan's friend,” Lu said. China has described Lee as a person belonging to the “dustbin of history” for advocating Taiwan's independence, and refused to hold talks with Taiwan during the last few years of his presidency. Cross-strait tensions have been easing steadily since Ma Ying-jeou became president last year. But Lu, from the pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party, urged the U.S. government to carefully assess the latest development in cross-strait relations. She argued that by encouraging Taiwan to “tilt” towards China, Washington may be helping Beijing set up a “trap” for Taipei. She also urged Ma to call a national affairs conference as soon as possible, bringing together representatives from the ruling and opposition camps to explore ways for the country's long-term stability and development. Lu said that Ma has never talked to opposition leaders, or contacted former President Chen Shui-bian or her since taking office. But she also said the DPP must not be blind to the cross-strait development. The DPP must prepare itself if it wants to play a role in shaping the relations between Taiwan and China in the future, Lu said. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Is the DPP democratic or communist? Is there any hidden conspiracy the DPP and Lee are planning before you expose that Lee is a communist? Now is the time that the people of Taiwan should be aware that the DPP is undemocratic. The DPP now disclosed its Father Lee as a communist. VOTE WISELY. DON'T VOTE THE DPP and the TSU. DPP and TSU are CROOK and DEMONCR@ZY. July 7, 2009 hft33362003@ I have said this before. This ex-President (Ni Teng - Hui) flip flops in politics so much so he appears to be a turncoat on either side. He supports ex-President Chen Shui Bian/DPP to prevent KMT to continue to have a say in the country’s affairs. His intention is to send KMT into oblivion (hard to imagine for a man who was an ex-President from the KMT party). At the same time he maintains himself as a so called "spiritual leader" of TSU with no responsibility, no commitment but at the same time giving support to DPP and Chen Shui Bian. Now he is trying to shake off his association/support with DPP by singing a different tune. This ex-President has no qualms in ditching anyone at anytime he chooses. Not an ex-President of high principle. I think he now wants to turn around and be in the good books of KMT. It may be too late to make such amends for the whole of Taiwan have seen him through and through. KMT party may not be so kind to him now. His bosom friend in DPP in the standing of ex- Vice President Annette Lu uncovered his Communist past - (I wonder whether it is true?). But the point is he did not deny this. What can I make out of this secret being revealed? Ni teng - hui (wait a while), yes wait a little while longer to see how this turns out. It would be interesting to follow this man in his sunset years. July 12, 2009 Demian808@ err_co_eds, you seem to suffer from an inability to think straight. Your reasoning seems to go like this: 1) Lee Teng hui was briefly a member of the Communist Party, so that makes him a communist for life. Ridiculous! 2) Lee Teng hui was the father of the DPP. Not true! So right there your argument in null. But that doesn't stop you. You hop right onto the Brain Train and don't stop until you get to Loony Town. Your conclusion: Ergo, since the Lee Teng hui was a communist, which is certainly not democratic, and Lee Teng hui was the father of the DPP, then the DPP must be undemocratic. Wow. Quite a piece of work there. If you knew anything about Taiwanese history, you would have known that such an argument was null before you went ahead and made a fool out of yourself. And you, dptaiwan! I have known enough DPP and TSU supporters personally and know enough about Taiwanese history to realize that 1) Their supporters are far from brainwashed. Your condescending use of the term is meaningless. I guess that anyone that agrees with the DPP and disagrees with you must be 'brainwashed'! Are they brainwashed because they question the KMT? How dare they! (I guess that I'm brainwashed too then.) 2) Their ideology is far from fake. Would you care to explain why it is or are you just mindlessly throwing around slurs? At least err_co_eds attempted, albeit failed miserably, to put together a logical argument. Back to school with both of you!!! |
