Drug features to be printed on outer labels

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Cabinet yesterday passed draft revisions to the Pharmacist Law, installing a new regulation that all drug bags should clearly bear information on the functions of the medicines inside them to make the public use the medicine in a safer and more accurate manner.

Su Chun-bin, minister of Government Information Office, told a press conference that existing laws concerning medical services, doctors and pharmacists bear varied regulations on the content of instructions printed on the drug containers or packages, and therefore the draft revisions to the Pharmacist Law will install one regulation on uniform instructions on drug bags.

In other words, after the revisions are ratified by the Legislative Yuan, all the drug containers should bear such written instructions as the name, dose volume, amount, usage, warning slogan, and functions of the medicines inside, Su continued.

The new regulation is designed to help patients take their medicine in a more accurate and safe manner, Su said.
