Updated Saturday, May 16, 2009 10:19 am TWN, The China Post news staff DPP set for rallyMany supporters of the Democratic Progressive Party are already calling for the launch of a recall campaign against Ma over what they call the government's pro-China policies and increasing restrictions on freedoms. The DPP chairwoman said her party does not rule out launching a recall campaign, but is not in a hurry to do it tomorrow. She said the DPP instead will seek to consolidate other social movements and opposition forces, gathering momentum through future actions the opposition will undertake. The DPP has vowed to overstay their permit for the Sunday demonstration for an overnight sit-down protest till Monday on Ketegalan Boulevard in front of the presidential building. Tsai, saying she is ready to go to jail for her actions, said all leading DPP members will stay behind if demonstrators choose to further prolong the protest. Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin reiterated that the city government will not come down hard on the demonstration as long as the demonstrators stay calm and peaceful. But Hau questioned why the DPP is refusing to apply for the rights to use Ketegalan Boulevard on May 18. The mayor said the DPP will be held fully responsible if the demonstration causes any impact on traffic in the area. The DPP has obtained the rights to use Ketegalan Boulevard on Sunday, and adjacent Zhongshan South Road on Monday. But Tsai has described the idea of applying for road rights as an “old way of thinking.” The demonstration is meant to display the opposition's protest against a government plan to revise the public assembly law. The DPP claims the proposed revision is an attempt by the Ma administration to deny the people rights to demonstrate in public. A spokesman for the ruling Kuomintang, Lee Chien-jung, dismissed the opposition camp's talks of a recall campaign against Ma. Lee said such a campaign would be totally against mainstream opinion, judging from the DPP's current low popularity ratings and its history of corruption. The city government said it has worked out traffic measures to make sure students of the three schools in the area can be safe traveling to and away from school on Monday. They have their families and money in North America, but come here just enough to maintain connections and stir up trouble. All they want is another chance to steal from our citizens. Let's get them out of here! May 16, 2009 roc4freedom@ Once again, people all over the world will be watching T.V. to focus on the undisciplined and unprincipled DPP boys and girls rally and demonstrate with meaningless speeches in the street. Everybody knows that's psychological political warfare. DPP is power thirsty and will deceive the people AGAIN and AGAIN. It’s a NON-STOP LIE.Just one year of ENJOYING the Prosperity, Peace, Harmony, Freedom, Democracy and Liberty under the good governance of President Ma, the poor people of Taiwan are now being jeopardized on May 17 by the DEMONCRAZY POLITICAL PARTY to stage the Art of DEMOLITION JOB to return the people back to the DARK YEARS. Poor student of Taiwan. When their parents worked so hard to earn money to send them to school, they are now being Annoyed and Disturbed by the DPP. Is it the beginning of the DEMONCRAZY POLITICAL PARTY to create CHAOS, DESTRUCTION and DISTURBANCES in TAIWAN? May 16, 2009 hft33362003@ We shall see how much support she will get. Talk is cheap. You don't need capital, not even a dime to boast ones or DPP ego. DPP got a drubbing in January 2008 - that is not so long ago. Now DPP is trying to cause chaos to redeem itself by saying "Ma is not capable, Ma is no good, Ma is trying to stifle dissent etc." In 8 years of DPP rule what did DPP achieve? Created, promoted the famous Chen Shui-bian!!! Famous for the wrong reason. Saying others are no good does not make you better. The fact is Chairwoman Tsai was part of the team (Vice Premier) in ruling Taiwan for 8 long years. May 16, 2009 tublairy@ God forbid if the DPP had gotten into power. Those who think the economy is bad now would need to be content having this country dining on nothing but shoe-sole soup. I understand that people have the right to protest, but, really, GET A CAUSE. May 17, 2009 minime@ A gathering of thugs and imbeciles. May 17, 2009 m@ As long as the Chinese Civil War continues, the Han Chinese diaspora will be seen as the "[expletive deleted] of the Orient" because if they will not respect each other no one else around the globe will either. |
