Updated Wednesday, February 25, 2009 9:43 am TWN, The China Post news staff Ma Ying-jeou to have TV interview FridayWang said Ma won't talk about a comprehensive economic cooperation arrangement (CECA) between Taiwan and China. “The President accepted the request for an interview,” Wang said. He refused to identify the network that would interview Ma. Ma is not expected to dwell on the CECA in the interview, Wang said. “But if asked,” he said, “the President would answer.” He will answer similarly at a press conference, which has yet to be scheduled, Wang added. No comment will be made on the CECA, Wang said, because the president has already decided a public debate is necessary over how to name the arrangement and what should be stipulated. Opponents of the CECA argue the word “arrangement” denigrates the dignity of an independent, sovereign state. They don't want it to be called a closer economic partnership arrangement (CEPA), the name given to an FTA-like pact signed between China and Hong Kong. FTA stands for free trade agreement.
