KMT lawmaker surrenders party rights over dual citizenship

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A lawmaker of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) surrendered her party rights Friday, pending clarification of her dual citizenship issue.

Legislator Lee Ching-an informed the KMT in a written notice that effective immediately, she has temporarily given up her party rights and will refrain from taking part in any activities of the KMT legislative caucus until the dispute over her dual citizenship issue is resolved.

The KMT's head office later confirmed it had received the notice and had agreed to her decision. It urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to contact the U.S. government to clarify the issue as soon as possible.

In a separate notice to the legislature, Lee said that with immediate effect, she will not accept any salary from the legislature.
