U.S. corrects ‘error’ on legislator’s nationalityIn an initial report submitted to the ministry on Dec. 5, the U.S. government apparently said KMT Legislator Kung Wen-chi was an American citizen. It recently discovered, however, that it had confused Kung, a male, with a woman in its database who had the same English name spelling and birth date as the legislator. The Foreign Ministry received the correction from the American Institute in Taiwan’s Washington office Tuesday morning, according to Harry H.J. Tseng, the deputy director of the MOFA’s Department of North American Affairs. Meanwhile, Tseng said the investigation into its main target, KMT Legislator Lee Ching-an, is ongoing and that his ministry expects to receive a “clearer answer” to its inquiry over whether she holds U.S. citizenship.
