Taipei Bar Association clears Chen’s attorneyThe association closed the case by saying the lawyer, Cheng Wen-lung, had only made remarks within the parameters of freedom of speech. The ministry expressed regret over the decision, saying the bar association had misinterpreted the constitutional freedom of speech. The former president has been detained incommunicado for alleged corruption. He has been denied any visitors, except the attorney, who has made public the former president’s statements. The ministry took that as a breach of the no-visit regulations designed to deny detainees of any communication with the outside.
