Ex-vice premier probed over bribe scandal

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Lin Hsin-yi, former vice premier, was subpoenaed by the Special Counsel for questioning in connection with the sensational Longtan industrial park scandal.

Prosecutors released Lin after the questioning.

He oversaw the sale of 76 hectares of land by Leslie Koo, chairman of the Taiwan Cement Company, to the government in 2004. The land was purchased at a highly bloated price and former President Chen Shui-bian and his wife are charged with taking a NT$420 million bribe to get the purchase approved.

Lin denied wrong doing in the purchase of the land for the Longtan science-based industrial park.
