The unemployment rate in Taiwan is expected to surge at the end of this year, as many Taiwanese companies would go out of business due to the global financial crisis and economic downturn, experts forecast recently. Under the education ministry’s program, 990 job openings will be made available at the country’s colleges and universities, 545 jobs will be offered at public libraries in the country’s 25 cities and counties,and 3,465 positions will be available at education departments and elementary and junior high schools throughout the country. Job-hunting graduates of colleges or higher educational institutions are eligible to apply for work in colleges and universities, while graduates of high school or higher educational institutions are qualified to apply for jobs at public libraries. Various requirements in the area of computer skills and educational background have been set for applicants for administrative jobs and for auxiliary work at elementary and junior high schools. The pay being offered is around NT$1,000 per day and the jobs will begin from the end of this month and last until next June.
