TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Several charity organizations will play host to underprivileged groups during an e

xhibition of masterpieces by Jean Francois Millet at the National Museum of History starting from May 31, the organizations announced yesterday.

Sponsors of the upcoming exhibition of Millet include: TSMC Education and Culture Foundation, Chinatrust Charity Foundation, Quanta Culture and Education Foundation, PSC Cultural Foundation, and Foundation of 21st Summer Deaflympics Organizing Committee.

Huang Yung-chuan, curator of National Museum of History, said: "Thanks to the support of the five major foundations, Taiwanese people will have the opportunity to see the masterpieces of Millet."

As a response to the love and care themes often reflected in Millet's artworks, the TSMC Education and Culture Foundation and PSC Cultural Foundation will each host 1,200 school children from low-income families and remote areas at the exhibition. Chinatrust Charity Foundation will host 300 children and social workers at the exhibition so they can appreciate Millet's works.

Quanta Culture and Education Foundation, meanwhile, will hold a drawing competition and will pay for the winner's trip to France. The Foundation of 21st Summer Deaflympics Organizing Committee will guide hearing-impaired people at the exhibition through sign language during weekends.

The exhibition -- "Millet and His Masterpieces from the Musee d'Orsay" -- is co-sponsored by National Museum of History, United Daily News Group and the Musee d'Orsay and will be held at National Museum of History from May 31 to September 5.

The exhibition includes 65 artworks, including the famous "The Gleaners" and "The Angelus" and some other 14 masterpieces of the master.
