Updated Thursday, April 10, 2008 0:00 am TWN, CNA Hakka Tung Blossom Festival to begin April 10According to the Cabinet-level Council for Hakka Affairs, Lee Yung-teh, who heads the council, will hold a news conference Thursday to release detailed information on where visitors can go to see the spectacular drifts of snow white flowers, as well the many activities reflecting Hakka culture in the counties of Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua and Nantou. April and May are the months when tung flowers, also known as paulownia flowers, are in full bloom in central and northern Taiwan. The white flowers have become a symbol of the Hakka people and the flowering season is celebrated in Hakka villages every year with traditional music and song, coupled with the consumption of Hakka delicacies. According to the Council for Hakka Affairs, 44 community groups in 25 cities and townships will present over 100 artistic and cultural activities, while 92 outlets will market some 400 tung flower-related products and 78 designated restaurants will provide Hakka dishes.
