Yunlin Expo proves to be exceedingly popular: chief

TAIPEI -- The Yunlin Agriculture Exposition has attracted more than 900,000 visitors since it opened last Dec. 25, a result the county chief has described as “beyond expectations.”

Su Chih-fen said Wednesday that she had been afraid the exposition, set to close the following day, would not draw the 500,000 visitors the county government had originally aimed for because the expo park is located in an area with poor traffic connections.

The park is on a plot of land designated for the planned Huwei station of the high-speed rail, but because construction of the station is not yet complete, traffic links to the park are insufficient, making it inconvenient for people to visit, Su said.

The massive crowds of visitors have been beyond her expectations, Su said, expressing her gratitude for the support of the public andthe media for the expo.
