Police detain father after death of 4-year-old child

The China Post news staff--Prosecutors yesterday questioned a man in Yunlin County for the death of his 4-year-old son, who the man said might be been killed by another of his sons, aged 6.

According to Yunlin police, the child was reported missing on Aug. 7 by his grandfather in Kaohsiung, who told authorities that the child's father, a man surnamed Chen, might have taken him away.

The authorities located Chen in Yunlin's Linnei Township. Chen told the police that his son was found dead on Aug. 7 and might have been killed by the child's big brother. Chen said he drove his younger son's body to Linnei the next day to cover up for his older son.

The police, however, said they have reservation about Chen's testimony, and transferred him to Yunlin District Prosecutors Office where he will face homicide charges. Chen maintained his claims in questioning by prosecutors yesterday, during which he disclosed where the boy was buried. Authorities uncovered a body at the location late yesterday and will conduct forensic examinations to determine the body's identity and other information.
