FPG fire compensation set at NT$500 million

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) reached an agreement with the Yunlin County government and resident representatives yesterday on compensation over a string of accidents at its petrochemical complex in the county's Mailiao Township.

In the third negotiation, the county government and representatives from Mailiao as well as nearby Taishi Township gave their nod to the FPG's offer of NT$500 million (US$15.63 million) in compensation for the agricultural and fishery losses caused by the two fires last month.

Local representatives attending the meetings include Mailiao township chief Lin Song-li, head of Mailiao villager representative Hsu Liu-bin, head of Mailiao's farmer association Hsu Jun-jei, Taishi's farmer association head Li Wen-jen and members of the Taishi township and fishery association, etc.
