Liu was shot three times in the head and once in the chest, police said, adding that he died instantly. Lin and a friend, also present during the shootout, were also injured, but remain in stable conditions after receiving medical treatment, officials said. Liu was asking Lin to pay back a NT$60,000 debt, but Lin only paid him NT$1,800, according to officials. Eyewitnesses told police that the victim was already lying motionless on the ground when the suspect shot him one last time before fleeing, the officials said. Police quickly identified Lin as the suspect, and later arrested him. During the arrest, police recovered two handguns and nine bullets, the officials said. Doctors managed to revive a baby which showed no signs of life yesterday after she was rescued from a fire gutting her Taipei home, police said. The fire broke out in the basement of an apartment building on Xinsheng North Road around 3:20 a.m. Firefighters rescued the baby, another child and two adults from the basement, which had been converted into six rental suites. Police said they were investigating the cause of the fire, and whether the conversion of the basement was legal. A driver was killed after his car rammed into a residence and burst into flames in Miaoli City, yesterday, police said. The fire also gutted the building, but firefighters managed to rescue 17 people trapped inside. The 21-year-old driver, surnamed Chiu, was later found dead in his car. Police are investigating the cause of the accident, which occurred at around 6 a.m. Whilst urging all motorists to drive carefully amid busy traffic, and cold and wet weather, police officials reiterated that residents can ask them to step up patrols of their neighborhoods when they are away during the Chinese New Year holiday.
