Large MIT New Year sale to kick off in Yunlin

YUNLIN, Taiwan -- Chinese New Year is always the perfect season to bag a good bargain.

And for connoisseurs, products bearing the Made-In-Taiwan (MIT) tag are always the first choice.

Ahead of the boisterous holiday, Yunlin County Government (雲林縣政府) is hosting the 2010 New Year bazaar featuring MIT products. The event aims to highlight the island's top MIT textile products and to boost the local apparel market by showcasing a slew of chic and affordable creations by Taiwanese designers.

The grand sale will take place between Jan. 29 and Jan. 31 at Touliu Sports Park (斗六市運動公園), with more than 200 stalls selling products within nine categories -apparel, sweaters, lingerie, bathing suits, stockings, towels, bedding, luggage and footwear.

In a bid to draw crowds from other cities, the county government has invited dance troupes and drum ensembles to perform lively dragon dance at the opening ceremony, scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. on the first day of the bazaar.

The event is jointly organized by the Yunlin County Industrial Development & Investment Promotion Committee (雲林縣工商發展投資策進會), Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) Material & Chemical Research Laboratories (工研院材化所), and the Industrial Development Bureau (工業局) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), which endeavors to assist local industrial transformation.

Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI/紡織所), the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF/紡拓會), and the Footwear & Recreation Technology Research Institute (FRTRI/鞋技中心) have also contributed to the activities.

ITRI is a national organization that boosts industrial competitiveness. Since its establishment, ITRI has had three missions: to speed up technology development, to assist with techniques upgrade and to seek a future goal for local industrial technology to be the pioneer in Asian Pacific region and even around the world.

Also, TTRI was set up in 1959 with the initial purpose of textile products exports and quality maintenance. The foundation transformed in 1971 into a research and development organization for local textile industry, before upgrading its scale to an international scope in 2004.

With the similar goal with TTRI of promoting local textile goods, TTF was founded on Nov. 25, 1975. Over the decades, the organization has grown to provide a broad range of services including promotion, marketing analysis, product design, professional vocational training, certification of functional textiles, publications of textile information and issuance of Certificate of Origin.
