One drowned, 6 injured in Yunlin family tradgedy

YUNLIN, Taiwan -- A family trip at river turned out a tragedy in Yunlin County, where seven people were engulfed in the water at approximately 11 a.m., killing one and injuring six, local media reported yesterday.

A Taichung resident, Tsai Yen, brought his wife, Chang Li-feng to Mailiao, Yunlin County, for a trip. Tsai also invited other two families, including Chang Nung-hsien and his two children aged seven and three, which amounted up to eight members.

These eight people first went to the shore of Zhoushui River to pick up shells around 9 a.m.; however, the tide rose quickly at 11 a.m., overwhelming seven of them.

Chang died after being rescued, while the other six injuries were still in hospitalization as of yesterday.
