Over a decade ago, Huang offered a NT$9 million bribe to a prosecutor who dropped a homicide charge against him. But a second prosecutor assigned to his case was adamant about Huang's arraignment, and he fled and sought refuge in China, where he allegedly continued to manipulate gangsters on the island, carrying out crimes behind the scenes. The bribe-taking prosecutor was eventually given a five-year prison sentence, recently mitigated to two years and six months, said authorities. He was besieged by the police Thursday morning when he left his car briefly to purchase beetle nuts. Police had been monitoring Huang's whereabouts for some time since his return and seized the opportunity to take him into custody. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
