Taoyuan county official's office raided over 'favors'

TAIPEI -- The office of a Taoyuan County Government official was searched Tuesday for allegedly accepting favors from certain businesses in return for using his influence in bidding projects.

The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office sent agents to the office of Chiu Fon-hsu, deputy director of the Taoyuan County Water Resources Bureau, to conduct the search and examine related files, the county's Civil Service Ethics Department said.

The department said its preliminary understanding is that the case involves several hydraulic engineering technical service bids tendered by various agencies at central and local government levels.

Chiu is alleged to have been involved in accepting wining and dining from businesses while serving as a member of the screening committee of a purchase project.
