TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A puppy lost a row of teeth when it tried to avoid an eagle attack and hit an object in a park yesterday in Taoyuan (桃園).
The Taoyuan County Police Department said a police officer yesterday afternoon received a report saying that a dispute involving two citizens' pet animals occurred in a park.
A man, surnamed Chen, brought his eagle to the park and released it for flying training while the other man, surnamed Yi, was walking his Yorkshire Terrier at the same park, the police officer said.
To everyone's surprise, when the eagle saw the puppy it dove and attempted to snatch the frightened animal. The startled puppy tried to escape, and somehow when the puppy was running frantically it hit an object in the park and lost a row of teeth, police said.
Noting that although police could not intervene in a civil dispute, a police officer said he still asked the two men to return to the police station with him to make depositions.
A negotiation was also held in the police station, the police officer added.
