TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Bureau of High Speed Rail (BOHSR) yesterday said that the express train for Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport's MRT line will take passengers from Taipei to Taoyuan in 35 minutes.
The BOHSR also denied reports that claimed travel time would be reduced to 30 minutes.
According to the BOHSR, based on the mechatronic system contract the bureau signed in 2006, the scheduled travel time for an express train running between Taipei and Taoyuan Airport was 35 minutes, including the time spent to make scheduled stops at two stations.
The BOHSR said that the airport MRT project passed its Environmental Impact Assessment before 2002, and the initial speed designed for the trains was 80 kilometers per hour.
However, the BOHSR said, the design speed was different than the speed in the contract, so the bureau recently proposed that another report analyze the difference in terms of environmental impact.
The HSR estimated that speed differences will not greatly impact the environment, so they decided to set the speed limit to 100 kilometers per hour, which allows the travel time between Taipei and Taoyuan Airport by MRT to remain at approximately 35 minutes.
