CIB arrests 11 for manufacturing ketamine

The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB, 刑事局) yesterday dispatched operatives to 15 locations in Northern, Central and Southern Taiwan, arresting 11 suspects for allegedly manufacturing ketamine.

According to the CIB, the factory allegedly built by these 11 suspects could produce 60 to 70 kilograms of ketamine a day.

The police said the suspects used other people's names to rent a warehouse and a factory, imported chemical materials and purchased equipment for producing drugs. These suspects also designed equipment for producing drugs and optimized the production process.

Earlier in May, the Special Investigation Division (SID) received information that a 330-square-meter factory with a corrugated roof located in Longtan Township (龍潭鄉), Taoyuan County (桃園縣) was likely to be a factory producing drugs. The police raided the factory and found chemical materials, equipment for producing drugs and some ketamine crystals, but there was no one in the factory.

The SID later found that the drug manufacturers hid massive amounts raw materials in a warehouse in Gueishan Township (龜山鄉), Taoyuan County. At the venue, the SID found approximately 33,000 kilograms of chemical materials, an amount rarely seen by the police.

Cooperating with the Industrial Development Bureau (工業局) and Keelung Customs Office (基隆關稅局), the SID obtained information about the import of these raw materials and their distribution. After monitoring for five months, police conducted the raid yesterday and arrested the 11 suspects.
