Mother, daughter killed in suspicious fire; father critical

A mother and her 11-year-old daughter died at the scene while paramedics rushed the father to the hospital after firefighters put out the blaze, said a TVBS report.

Officers were cited as saying that arson is not ruled out, noting that the apartment unit on the eighth floor was filled with smoke that smelled of gas, the report said.

It is unclear how the father, who was found with a pulse, was able to survive the blaze given that he had the same slim chance of escaping as his wife and child, officers said.

A security guard had reportedly seen the father and daughter return home the evening before and was cited as saying that nothing looked out of the ordinary, said TVBS.

Other residents were able to evacuate to safety, according to the report.
