Five vehicles destroyed in Taoyuan fire

TAOYUAN, Taiwan -- Five scooters and cars were destroyed in a fire caused by sparks falling from overhead cables in the northern county of Taoyuan on Saturday, police said later that day.

Firecrackers set off by a group of children touched the overhead cables, creating the sparks that set fire to three cars and two scooters, police said, adding that there were no injuries.

After local residents extinguished the fire, they called on the county's Fire Bureau to investigate the fire and apportion blame.
