East Taiwan jolted by two early-morning earthquakes

TAIPEI -- Taitung County in Eastern Taiwan experienced two moderate earthquakes early Thursday, following another two temblors since the previous day, the Central Weather Bureau said.

Thursday's quakes took place at 0:12 a.m. and 4:44 a.m., measuring 4.1 and 4.3, respectively, on the Richter scale.

The strongest temblor was felt in Changbin Township with an intensity of 4.

The previous day, the same region recorded quakes with magnitudes of 3.8 and 4.3, respectively, the bureau said.

The tremors were related to each other, but they did not represent abnormal seismic activity, according to the bureau.
