TAIPEI--A group of students and teachers from National Taitung University in eastern Taiwan set off on a kayak trip around Taiwan on Saturday, with the aim of taking pictures and video of the island's entire coastline.
The 10-member group from the school's Department of Physical Education said the trip will take about 24 days in five one-man kayaks.
The project, planned in early 2011, will create a visual record of Taiwan's coastal scenery, in both still pictures and video, the group said.
“The day has finally come,” said Hsu Yi-ting, the only female in the group.
Each member has a particular responsibility during the trip. Hsu is in charge of controlling the rate of travel and observing changes in the currents and tides, while others are responsible for shooting videos, taking pictures, maintaining a log of the trip and replenishing supplies.
