Hot-air balloon festival takes off in Taitung CountyCNA TAIPEI--The sky in Taitung County was dotted with bright colors Saturday, as a festival featuring hot-air balloons from Taiwan and other countries was launched.
July 2, 2012, 12:09 am TWN The festival, to run until Sept. 2, showcases 21 hot-air balloons from 13 countries, including the United States, Canada, Switzerland, France, Spain and Brazil. Visitors to eastern Taiwan will be able to see hot-air balloon flying demonstrations and take balloon trips during the festival in Luye Township. The festival also includes a hot-air balloon exhibition, light and sound shows featuring hot-air balloons, music concerts, kite-flying and paragliding demonstrations, and lectures and courses on balloons. The best time to watch the balloons displays is from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to the Taitung County government, which organized the festival. Among the 47 balloon pilots invited to participate in the second annual festival is Wu Chin-yeh, Taiwan's first female hot-air balloon pilot and one of the first five Taiwanese trained by the county government as a hot-air balloon pilot. Wu had said that she was looking forward to showing visitors the beauty of her hometown from the perspective of a balloon flight.
