Updated Tuesday, July 27, 2010 9:47 am TWN, CNA Taitung to open new night market to meet demandThe night market, centered around a cluster of fruit stands on Taitung City's Zhengqi Road, will be inaugurated July 30, Huang said, noting that aside from the existing fruit stands, 135 more stalls will be opened, selling food and products with local features. Dishes such as pork blood soup, green onion pancakes, sauteed sea snails and grilled mountain pig will all be available at the market, Huang said during a promotion of the new tourist attraction in the forecourt of Taitung County Hall in which various of the dishes and snacks were offered in a free tasting session. The decision to establish the night market was made after many tourists complained in recent years that Taitung is “boring” after darkness falls, despite the southeastern Taiwan county's stunning scenery and landscapes woven in a rich tapestry of magnificent mountains, green land and clear sparkling water. The county is described by both locals and foreign visitors as “Taiwan's back garden” or “the last pure land of Taiwan,” and it is famed for producing the country's finest rice.
