Fishing boat sent back to sea after running aground

A fishing boat in southern Taiwan ran aground on the beach early yesterday morning and it took a boat of the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) and a dozen of fishermen and Coast Guards to get the vessel back to water after the tide rose.

The boat, registered at Jialan Port in southeastern Taitung County, overshot and landed on the beach when the captain attempted to overtake other boats with an aim to deliver the fish catch to the market earlier.

Lu Wei-wen, captain of the CGA's Taitung patrol team, received a call for help at 3:04 a.m.

Lu said the rescue mission was accomplished at around 6:30 a.m. by taking advantage of rising tide.

No one was hurt in the incident and the boat was able to resume operations soon after being towed back to the sea, Lu said.
