Taitung County residents urged to donate blood

TAITUNG, Taiwan -- The Taitung Blood Center, which serves hospitals in southeastern Taiwan, is urging the public to donate blood to help relieve a serious blood shortage.

Li Han-chun, director of the blood center, told reporters Thursday that the center’s existing stockpile of various types of blood has fallen far below the critical level and can last for only two days.

Meanwhile, members of a local chapter of Lions Club International and four other organizations have been encouraging people to join a blood donation campaign July 25-26 by offering to reward each donation of 250cc blood with a NT$100 convenience store coupon, along with gift coupons for a natural hot spring spa for the first 100 donors.
